Studina Solar Project Reaches Commercial Operation Date

CWP Europe has successfully brought online the Studina solar facility, a 174 MWdc photovoltaic installation located in Olt County, southwest of Bucharest. This achievement follows the project’s commercial operation date (COD), transforming what was once a development pipeline asset into a fully operational clean energy generator contributing directly to Romania’s grid.

Acquired by CWP Europe in 2023, the project advanced rapidly through construction phases, ultimately surpassing initial timelines that targeted end-of-2024 commissioning. The plant now stands as Romania’s largest operational solar park in terms of nameplate capacity at 174 MWdc, eclipsing the previous leader, the 155 MW Rătești facility developed by Econergy. While larger projects are in various stages of construction across the country, Studina’s entry into service represents a tangible milestone for utility-scale solar deployment in the region.

The facility employs high-efficiency bifacial solar modules mounted on single-axis trackers, paired with string inverters to optimize energy yield across varying irradiance conditions. This configuration enhances performance by capturing reflected light on the rear side of panels and allowing dynamic tracking of the sun’s path throughout the day. Such technical choices are increasingly standard in large-scale European solar developments, helping maximize output in temperate climates like Romania’s.

Annual energy production is estimated at around 245,000 MWh, a figure derived from site-specific solar resource assessments, system design efficiencies, and historical performance modeling. This output equates to supplying electricity to more than 122,500 average Romanian households, assuming typical per-household consumption patterns in the region.
